MIXED MEDIA PORTFOLIO

With my 'Woolen Taboos' digital art series I present uncomfortable conditions and situations, not in their reality, but in a form that softens the stories, makes them expressible in words. Everyone likes soft knitwear and plush animals,as these act as a shelter. People are reluctant to talk about domestic violence, disabilities, ageing and death. These are difficult subjects, especially for those involved. But it is necessary to talk about them, as this is the first step to help. Openly talking about taboo situations gives legitimacy, helps to normalise them and to mobilise supporters. The contrast between content and form is what gives these pieces their fluidity and power.
